Cell Fracture in Blender

2

Take a look behind the scenes of SottoZen's 'Kung Furious - Wall demolition' video.

I recently used Blender 3D, the open source Software that you can download for free, to simulate a big wall falling down in a short video that we made for fun.

I thought that would be usefull show the process behind our Vfx. In this Tutorial i show how i used the "Cell Fracture" Plug-In to shatter my model.

This is intended for basic and intermediate Blender's users and it's based upon my personal experience.

  1. Great! I would like to know the specifics of how you times when in the movie the collapse began. Also, I would like to know the details of how you made the dust. Thanks

Thanks. The simulation involved 2.000 fragments and, i have to say, it took not long to bake ( few minutes). Render times was another story :)

For the dust, i ve tried to set up a smoke simulation in Blender and it looks really great in geometry. Was quite easy and fast to do but when i tried to render it was impossible! It would take weeks to render. I am not a render settings expert so maybe there is a fast way to handle with smoke sim in Blender but for what i tried was a nightmare!

Then, for the dust i jump into After Effects and imported some dust footage that i composited in 3D space and tried to get the best as possible.
