Marry Christmas everyone!
I wanted to share a breakdown of my entry for the Blenderguru Christmas 2016 competition.
I have uploaded the breakdown to ArtStation. It contains a breakdown of the:
- twig-modelling process
- needle materials
- image composition
- fur layers
If you have ideas, how I could have improved the image, I would be more than happy to read it.
have a nice Holiday! :)

This could just be my opinion but everything is a big clean and maybe the lighting could be more interesting. Purely opinion though.
Thank you for your feedback!
After reading your comment, that the lighting could be more interesting, I let GIMP show me the histogram and I realized, that my image is underexposed!
So the next thing I would like to try out would be to add a bright rim-light to the mouse and the twig, the mouse is looking at.
About everything being clean I was a little surprised, as I already made sure to use varied roughnesses and even some dirt on the needles.
Hmm, ok, the keys is really in a too good shape. Maybe I should try to add larger scratches also affecting the shape of the keys, not only the material.
Are there areas, where you especially have the feeling of everything being too clean, or is it an overall feeling?
Thank you! Have a nice Christmas! :)
I think it needs a specular somewhere. A lot of the needles are very similar and doing the same thing. The one that the mouse is looking at has variation and looks nice.
The whole think looks nice. but my day job is critiquing work all day long haha.
Yeah, so I got some professional feedback for free! :)
(btw. I worked for about 5 years as a software tester in a gaming company^^)
A very nice illustration. And - oh boy! - what a clever workflow! Your breakdowns on ArtStation make me feel jealous :-)
Thank You :)
Developing the workflow took me way more time than I originally intended^^
