AMD CEO Lisa Su demonstrated the latest AMD 'Ryzen' CPU during a live presentation, pitching it against the Intel Core i7-6900K. And for their very first demo they selected Blender! Check it out.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

These presentations make me cringe, especially the audience applauding on demand. still fun to see Blender used by a major company though.
Me too, because this is typical Stephe Jobs style, which is so strange.
I download the demo, and I render it with the CPU and it took 1.27 minutes, the I put with my GPU and it took 1.46 So i don't understand how it's possible.
This is my pc:
intel i76700 3.4GHz
32 ram
MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X 8GB GDDR5X
windows 10
Did you download the Ryzen demo? Where? :)
from here
http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/new-horizon
you will get little performance gains if the GPU renders small tiles. set your render tile size to 512x512 and it will scorch it.
Is possible because of the Tiles,
Change the tiles to X: 512, and Y: 256 and you will see a big change for Gpu
This demo: http://download.amd.com/demo/RyzenGraphic_27.blend ?
On gtx 970: 19.51s (200samples) (tiles 200x200)
On gtx 970: 9.52s (100samples) (tiles 200x200)
i5 4460 CPU 3.2GHz: 49.59s (100samples) (tiles 32x32)
blender-2.78-514db9f-win64
windows 10
I want to test with the same setting that they put it.
Now I just change the setting of the tiles to 200x200 and it took 14.39 seg. So much less
Do you have a Blender 2.78a? It's important.
It the 2.78... But tomorrow I will be available to give you the exactly version.
yes I have blender 2.78a ;D
Nice, some competiton for Intel, finaly!
But for 3D rendering, GPU stay much faster: this scene render in 10 seconds on my GTX1070 at 200 samples..
And as soon as Ryzen is released [yeah! whoop! whoop!] or just before that, what will Intel release? [awkward shuffles].
Doesn't matter, AMD will be cheaper.
At the far lower price point compared to intel, I think these will be a huge seller!
Its just simple economics.
Amd is the innards of playstation and xbox too(cpu and gpu) as far as I know, so game consoles will also be jumping way up in performance.
Looking forward to this big time for pc!

AMD seems poised for a solid comeback, This CPU may bring me back to AMD for the first time in years, the RX line of GPU's got me back in that for $200 I was able to score an 8GB GPU for cycles, my 3.5GB GTX 970 was struggling.
