Free Photo Scanning Workflow (VisualSFM, MeshLab and Blender)

3

I've been doing a lot of photogrammetry with Autodesk Recap360 and Agisoft Photoscan lately - both commercial packages (although Recap has a free, lower-quality mode - see my tutorial on it here). Gleb Alexandrov explains how to do full image reconstruction using only free/libre software. I've never been able to test VisualSFM as it's such a pain to get it to run on OSX. Any tips? :)

Discover a free photo scanning workflow for VisualSFM, Meshlab and Blender. After watching this tutorial you’ll be ready to generate the jaw-dropping 3D models from photos, for $0. That said, you still need a camera.

  1. VisualSFM is NOT free (as in speech) software.

    Free/libre software for photogrammetry : Darmstadt's MVE, MicMac, OpenMVG/OpenMVS

  2. I got to compile it under Mac OS X, I could make a tutorial. Though there exist some alternatives to VisualSFM. For example Regard3D.
