The Grove just turned 1 and is already celebrating its 4th release!
Grow conifers and breakthrough broadleaf trees – cast real shade, bend physically and prune interactively.
Conifers can look deceptively straightforward and sometimes even “procedural”. But once you get to know them, they turn out to be extremely sensitive trees. To nail their characters, The Grove had to become just as sensitive.
Highlight features include:
- Real ray traced shade and phototropism
- (Addictive) Viewport pruning using Grease Pencil strokes
- Conifers and many features to make them possible
- Physical bending using Euler-Bernoulli beam theory
- And many, many more features
This product is becoming not just a good solution for Blender, but one of the most convincing tree generators on the market in general.
Some of the final results displayed look better (truer-to-life) than SpeedTree, in my opinion, and I’ve used SpeedTree for UE4.
I love how you guys get really into some of the science behind tree growth, to achieve convincing tree growth behavior.
Your hard work’s showing well, and you guys seem to drastically improve with every new update. Keep it up!

You are going from strength to strength with this product, Wybren. There is an aspect of realism that your trees have that clearly reflects your research and astute application of what you’ve learned to the process of growing a tree. Well done, indeed!
