Oh, this is twisted! Enjoy Tony Diaz' new short and breakdown :)
Hey everyone! Got a new short film I directed that had quite a few essential VFX done in Blender. After my last Blender heavy project ('Freefall Music Video), I wanted to keep playing, but also not go overboard and lose time on the VFX. I have to say I'm loving being able to GPU render volumetrics, definitely saved me time on this. This was also my first time really modeling anything complicated, and I quickly learned the importance of keeping your poly count low...
Thanks again to the Blender foundation, this is an awesome, powerful piece of software.

What the hell... I didn´t understand what this video is good for. Commercial, Comedy, ???
But it doesn´t matter. It´s done so great. With so much style... It´s great.
So if anyone can tell me what I have to buy, or to do after watching this video... Simply call me. I´ll follow :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Now I wish I had something to sell..... ;)
Well then... That escalated quickly. Nicely done.
Nice job on the VFX! It's a good sign when the VFX break down shows FX that I didn't even realize were FX shots.
Thanks! Glad the FX weren't totally obvious, with a piece like this I needed to get to as close as photo-realistic as possible.
Holy sh*@t! This is amazing! What a crazy short film XD
Highly disturbing and highly entertaining.
Loved the VFX breakdown. Like Tanner said, some of the FX didn't even register as VFX because they are so subtle and realistic.
Thank you!
Since working so long on the VFX will give anyone a myopia as far as what looks realistic or not, I'm curious which VFX screamed their VFX-y-ness the most?
For me, the lights at the end, when the microwaves are turned on, were quite obviously VFX. And having played with the blender smoke simulator from time to time, the black smoke coming from underneath the door also was fairly obvious.
All the other effects I didn't even notice, though. It was only when I watched the VFX breakdown that I realized the Microwave elements in the closet weren't real but 3D and that it wasn't actually raining :P
Absolutely brilliant :)
Thank you!
Nice work Tony. Would love to get you back into a future LA Blender Users Group meeting to give us an in-person behind the scenes overview of this work. Let me know if you'd be open to that and I'll put you in our session agenda - Stirling
