With Blender 2.78, you can render stereoscopic 'virtual reality' videos. (I quoted the term virtual reality as I think 'true' VR requires freedom of navigation inside a scene - these 360 videos allow you to look around, but not navigate).

My favourite feature of the new version of Blender is the ability to make stereoscopic virtual reality video - 360 degree videos that are 3D in every direction.
Here's my tutorial on how to make any scene render correctly in 3D and VR, and how to upload it to YouTube! I also show you how to make a simple scene that looks like you're floating in space, which is what the tutorial's based on.

Thank you for this tutorial, more stuff needs to be done on the aesthetics of different 3D settings.
what sort of things specifically?
Thank you very much!
That was useful. I just started to think about 360° images/vids, and your tutorial was perfect as a starter!
Hi. The tutorial is really helpful and I was wondering whether I could use the settings to convert an animation into a Youtube VR 360 video.
Cheers
Carlos
Absolutely, I'd love to see it when you're done.
Just bear in mind it won't be very interesting if there's nothing going on around you and behind the camera.
Hi,
Thanks for your prompt reply :) I think that I need to explain myself better.
I'm creating a low poly animal in its environment using Blender. I want to create an animation where the camera moves around and the viewer can be able to watch the scenario as a 360 VR camera. Then I want to upload it to Youtube.
Do you think that it is possible to accomplish what I would like to do by using your tutorial?
I don't know how to attach an image here so I have pasted an address where you can look at a screenshot that my current project.

Thanks a lot for your help.
Best regards from Venezuela

Yes that's fine. Just a few things to bear in mind : make sure the camera is parallel with the floor (so the angle should be exactly 90 degrees). It's also best if the camera doesn't rotate while it moves, that could be disorienting for the viewer
Hi Moby,
Thanks a lot :) I like your tutorial and I can understand your voice very well.
Cheers
Thanks for the tutorial. How can we find more info about setting 360 camera? Like the top-bottom settings, stereoscopy, and so on. Thanks!
Great Tutorial. Thanks!
Great tutorial! I'm working on my first video now.
very helpful video as an intro. As a suggestion for next steps, how to integrate vr camera captures with 3d objects, if blender can support that.
