Short animation: SubSurface

2

Fantastic underwater scenes in this short video by Sakari Leppä.

Underwater scenery has always fascinated me,so I started doing some 3D scenes, and tests for an animation. One of those was the "Boat on the bottom of the sea" image in the BlenderGuru competition some years ago.

Since I am part of this small 3D animation "band" called "Half-Bit Cheese", it sounded cool enough to do an underwater project together. We had a preliminary idea for a story and started to work on it back in 2009, aiming for release at the annual Assembly demoscene event.

And well, as it often happens, the project slowed down.. the mind wanders, people change jobs..locations..even move to another countries. We worked on the project occasionally, slowly though, but still making progress. Eventually the film became more like a collage of underwater scenery instead of a thing with a story.

Anyways.. The film's purpose is to celebrate the beauty of the world beneath the ocean's surface. I hope you will enjoy it.

Everything done in Blender, except for editing & transitions in After Effects.
