Hey,
I've been working a lot with Cube Maps lately. I'm sharing the file (under Public domain) that I use to convert any 360 degrees Equirectangular (by default but also works with the other ones Cycles can use) High Dynamic Range image to Blender Cube Maps / Environment Maps. Also works if you append a 3D scene to it, you just need to change the baking from "environment" to "combined" in that case.
These maps can be obtained by using blender internal since a long time ( blender 2.0 already did it) but there are some unclear procedures involved :) This one uses Cycles and what it does is baking the environment captured from a cube to an image that blender can read as a Cube/Environment Map.
It as easy as this video explains:
Cube Maps support was added in Blender 2.77 and it's a easy and fast way to add reflections to, for example, cars, cups, glasses, etc using blender 3D viewport in GLSL mode.
You can download the .blend from Blend Swap, and there is also a post at Blenderartists.
The HDRi used on the examples are from www.hdrlabs.com
I made the car in the video. This time I only had one week to make it so, I apologize but, no wipers or any similar detail.
Best regards

This looks really handy, thanks!
Thanks! I'm glad you find it useful!
This may be a lame question. Is the scene inside of the Cube?
Cheers
