Krita 2016 Kickstarter: Let’s make Text and Vectors Awesome

10

Krita has launched their third crowdfunding campaign!

Boudewijn Rempt writes:

The Krita community is ready to launch its third kickstarter campaign! Last year, we raised more than 30,000 euros! That made it possible to add huge performance improvements and support for creating hand-drawn animations to Krita. Those features, as well as some stretch goals are already in the Krita 3.0 beta! The other stretch goals will be releases, as originally planned, with Krita 3.1.

This year, we're raising funding for fixing two big and well-known problems in Krita: the vector and the text tools. Both tools were originally written to be shared with the office applications of the Calligra application suite, and never worked really well. For the text tool, the goal is support for OpenType, multiple scripts and built-in translations. For the vector tool, the first step will be to drop the OpenDocument Graphics standard and start supporting SVG; and then the tools need to be honed to make working with vectors fun again.

Of course, if we reach our goal, there are stretch goals to be funded. Some are big, others are small. The biggest one is Python scripting!

I love Krita! I gonna donate all money that I have! :)
GIMP should do same, it's just stuck in the development! >_<

  2. I really wish Krita would come out with a stable and native Mac app. Also an iPad app would be awesome, check out Paintstorm Studio for inspiration in that front.

    • We're working on a stable and supported OSX version: by the time we release 3.1 in August the problems with the OpenGL canvas should be solved. Basically, Apple dropped support for compatibility profiles, so we have to rewrite parts of Qt to only use OpenGL 3 core profile functionality. We're working on that.

I doubt there will ever be a version for iOS. Apple doesn't want GPL-licensed software in their app store, and Krita is GPL v2+ with about 600 copyright holders.

    Hello,

Like to donate. I have an account with Paypal and Amazon. You should use one, or both, of these services.

    • That's not up to us: it's Kickstarter's decision to not support paypal because paypal directly charges your account while kickstarter waits until the campaign gets funded. When we reach our funding goal, we'll also start registering pledges through paypal or direct bank transfer.

    Hello,

I saw a demo of Krita at the NW LINUXFeast a few weeks ago. Was very interesting. I think Krita is a good project and, as stated, I would love to donate without having to submit my credit card information on line.
