Announcing: Blender Cloud Services

6

The Blender Cloud is about to add some interesting new features to their platform, which moves them away from an 'education-only' service into the productivity realm. It seems many of these new services are what people expected of the Blender Cloud in the first place, and I expect this will help increase the number of subscribers (and therefore, increase the funds for Blender development and movie production too!)

Francesco Siddi writes:

It is time to start sharing the result of our work on Blender Cloud Services. In the coming weeks want to roll out a number of features for our subscribers.

  • Private projects and file management in the Blender Cloud
  • Blender ID add-on for Blender, so that users can be authenticated with their Blender ID account
  • Blender Cloud add-on for Blender, to access Blender Cloud features within Blender (Texture libraries)
  • Attract shot list management integration

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Finally!
really this is how I understood the blender cloud from beginning, to have texture, material, model libraries, accessible from inside of blender.
I really never got why I should get a subscription to access tutorials, when I make my money with blender for 15 years...

  2. That's fabulous to hear! Particularly the concept of remotely loading and viewing texture/material/model libraries on a repository. Very curious to hear about how that progresses. I've been happy to donate to the blender cloud without ever using it for anything really, but I'm happy to hear incentives like this will bring others to subscribe as well.
