Toonz has long been a leading 2D animation platform, used for productions like Futurama, Princess Mononoke and the game Discworld 2. Originally created by Digital Video and customized by Studio Ghibli, it has now been released as Open Source.
A premium version will also still be available, adding acces to training, customization and more.
Here is a demo of Toonz - not everything may be available in OpenToonz:

having more open source options is always a plus.
creepy robot voice narrator for the win.
windows and mac only for the lose.
"windows and mac only for the lose."
Now that it's open source, I'm sure a Linux version is only a matter of time.
you might be right about that =) but it also depends on if anyone is interested in porting it.
i do think it would be a nice addition but what with synfig, blender's recent grease pencil updates, the new animation features in krita, mypaint's old animation branch, and others i do wonder if the people who might port it may also think of it as just another drop in the bucket and be less interested in making a linux version.
Since there are already folks working on the Linux port, you fears seem to be groundless.
One thing to note, The workflow this is designed for is to draw a sketch on paper, scan it into the program, the program turns the scan into a vector graphic, and then allows you to color in and animate based on that. It has plugins and effects as well.
And while you can do some of that in Blender, the interface is not the best for it. Besides, you can use the same software as used to create Futurama!
