VR rendering with Blender for Vrais

8

Vrais allows you to view 360 degree, stereoscopic environments on Cardboard viewers. And rendering content for it is straightforward with this tutorial by Sebastian König.

One of the newest additions to Blender is the ability to render stereoscopic equirectangular VR images in Cycles. Here’s a short guide how to setup Blender for VR rendering. To view the finished result I use the Google Cardboard and our own little App called VRAIS - VR Awesome in Space. We developed the app as a tool for out studio workflow but also as a community based VR Gallery. You can find out more about it here: vrais.io.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Hidden jewel in this nice overview is that apparently Dalai Felinto's spherical stereo patch is in Blender builds from March 11 onward. Awesomesauce! Bring on the Blender VR renders....

  2. Hello, I'm trying to follow along. I was doing good until 2:31 in the video. I do not see the stereoscopy section.
I am in cycles render and have selected Panoramic under Lens settings but cant find Stereoscopy.
I have Blender 2.77 osx. What am I missing? Thanks!

    • Try downloading the latest Blender build from builder.blender.org (BuildBot)
The feature was added after 2.77 and will be in 2.78
