Quick Tip: Keep your menu order consistent

5

By default, Blender keeps the order of menu's items relative to where you clicked to open it. You're probably already used to this, but if this approach doesn't jive with you, you can change it in a somewhat hidden preference.

Looch writes:

There is this “feature” that Blender has, that really bothers me, have you noticed how menus often change their order direction depending on how close to the bottom or top of the screen they are?

To me it always felt like it was a UI design “no-no” reordering menus like that makes you have to look at it every time more than you should, and today thanks to user Sanne from BlenderArtists we have an answer for this, well in fact it was the developers, because the solution is an option in the user preferences, but not the typical users “user preferences”.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

but the most annoying menu thing in blender is we must work at the center of the window. for example if you press W key in edit mode and you choose an option, Blender will remember this - when you are at the center of the window. if you are (I mean, the mouse cursor) at the edge of the window, this remembered menu position is lost

I hope somebody can understand my bad english :)

in older Blender version the mouse cursor jumps the remembered menu position - this was good!

    • I get you, yes i love how blender remembers the position of the menus but it's awful it can't do it when close to a window, there should be an other way...

also when you open a menu if you move your mouse away and it closes it's also un helpful, i work with a tablet and a lot of the time you just take your cursor away by accident... so i keep opening the same menu again and again.
