Voxel art is becoming quite popular lately, and at Sketchfab we have launched a cool Fantasy-themed contest about it. You can use freely (gratis) available tools to design your work like Qubicle, MagicaVoxel and 3D-Slash, and them import and perfect (bake light etc) your scene in Blender. Or, if you like, you can just stack your blocks in Blender ;-)
In a world built on three dimensional pixels, a hero must design and build a fantasy voxel world and protect it from an unknown evil that may determine the fate of an entire kingdom. Export your tale to Sketchfab using annotations to tell your story and by the power of Greyskull… you might be victorious!
Prizes include a Lego Studio box, 3D prints of your work, licenses of Qubicle, a Parrot Airborne Cargo drone and Sketchfab subscriptions and goodies.
Full disclosure: I'm head of community at Sketchfab

You can use the Blender Remesh modifier set to Blocks, that will help tremendously.
True! Although you don't really get the same 'voxel' feeling with that. For example, take a look at these images:

Do you understand what I mean?
on a simple mesh I found having one modifier set to smooth octree depth 4 and then one below it set to block with octree depth 6 produces a more varied voxel look than just 1 remesh set to block.
