Danyl Bekhoucha's 'Dark Blender' offers an automated workflow to convert hi-res models (like sculpts) to low-poly optimized game assets.
Discover Dark Blender a modified version of Blender that include various scripts and tweaks to make the creation of game assets much faster. It is particularly fast for stylized asset such as Dota. It include a script to generate a low poly, a greyscale, save your textures, put them in layers to make them ready to paint from your high poly in one click at your desired polycount!
This project is free you can download it here.
You don't need to know anything about Blender or 3D in general because you can focus on sculpting with Dynatopo (you don't have to worry about the faces) then you run the script and you paint on your model.

I'd love to hear everyone's experiences with Dark Blender. Is it really 'one-click'?
Ditto. I'm still awaiting the weekend for time to check it out myself, but I'm interested in others' feedback in the meanwhile.
Played a bit with this, but i'm no game artist.
What I was able to do with (almost) just one click:
my hi-poly sculpt was decimated, unwrapped, had AO baked, assigned a shader and set up ready to paint a colour map.
The unwrap could be better (had some overlaps) but that might just be this particular model.
One click it's not, but very useful indeed.
The Smart UVs can sometimes create overlaps, i can do nothing for that unfortunately. :(
I love the high poly generator
however using Low poly generator on meshes with already bad topology is a horrible idea, as expected anyway
it looks like very useful but the video is a bit fast, hard to understand what's going on... :)
and will it be always free or it can be paid in the future?
I will do a tutorial where i create a game model from scratch for Dota using all the latest tools added. :)
This project will always be free, my goal is to create an alternative to the expensive/proprietary softwares and speed up the process of making game assets.
Is there a youtube mirror video for that instead of Vimeo?
Vimeo is unfortunately banned in our country :(
Which country are you in? I'd think Youtube is more likely to be banned than Vimeo.
Can you download dark blender and still have regular blender? Also any issues with exporting between the two blenders?
