Circle – Teaser

This is gorgeous.

Alexander Heringer writes:

The short film “Circle” depicts a young woman in despair, who after experiencing a tragic loss escapes into the seemingly perfect past. She loses herself in vivid memories and starts to neglect her real life. A constant inner struggle emerges between past and present, distorting her perception of reality. The short film combines real world settings with sophisticated visual effects creating an atmosphere that emphasises the emotional core of the film. This in mind, the most challenging part was finding an appropriate style for the bubbles populating in most of the scenes. Therefore we spent a considerable amount of time on an a comprehensive look development.

The bubbles had to be calm enough to perfectly fit those slow scenes. For a realistic and credible perception it was essential that they reflect a proper visual weight and movement. But above all, they had to be complex and simple at the same time in order to work in a 30 second closeup and still be interesting in a long shot without overwhelming the spectator with their complexity. All 3D elements were created with Blender.

  1. Lovely visuals, but the music seems completely inappropriate. That low bass rumble and creepy sounds were more suited to a horror film.

    • I can't be certain, but think this film will be, on some level, pretty similar to a horror movie. That thing about "She loses herself in vivid memories and starts to neglect her real life" makes me think that something frightening will happen.
But that's just me, maybe I'm projecting. I guess we'll find out when the film is released.
