Hi guys, I would like to share here a procedural plastic material I made and have been using a lot. I hope it helps to speed up a bit your workflow whenever you need a rough plastic material

  1. Nicely done. I'd like to see more attention given to purely procedural materials as they take very much less memory than texture maps and for some things they can be every bit as good as a good texture map.

    • procedural textures take more memory than images at rendertime, but their resolution is effectively infinite and you don't have to worry much about UV maps.

      • I mispoke, procedural doesn't take more memory than images, it takes longer to render. probably doesn't matter until you get into some large complicated scenes.

        • How slow to render a procedural material is will vary with complexity of the material and the lighting used. Some are fast to render, some are slow. The high effective resolution and low memory use are worth the usually modest hit in render times in many scenes, especially complex ones.

  2. I was going to try my hand at this type of lightly textured hard plastic, but this seems to nail it! This type of plastic is used so widely I'm sure this is great for a lot of people out there, good work! :)
