Work in Progress: Grease Pencil layer manager addon

4

Jose Molina is working on a layer manager for Grease Pencil. Check out this video to see what he's up to.

The layer manager stores the values and options from each Grease Pencil layer, and is also useful to set each layer's visibility when you are working with lots of layers, backgrounds, different characters, etc.

A download will be available soon.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I think the grease pencil is one of the more exciting developments as of late. It keeps getting better and better and the pros are really interested.

  2. How interesting that we could have such different views! I find the countless Grease Pencil panels are like a mysterious bacterial infection growing uncontrolled all over the Blender interface, always displacing a more useful panel on almost every screen. However many times I hide one, another always appears somewhere else. I've never found a single need for the Grease Pencil.

  3. Great for storyboards, planning out shots in films and games, roughing out quick concepts for meshes out to the side, editing videos with notes, and much more. Has really came in handy for some studios. Now the tool is getting even better for concept! Pretty soon I may not even need gimp or photoshop by how this tool is progressing :P.
