Short Film: The Globe

7

I was impressed by bizo's 'The Globe' - it has outstanding character animation, shading and atmosphere. The movie is not without its flaws, but I enjoyed watching it.

Hey there. I'd like to share with you a simple short movie I've been working on in spare time last 3 (4?) years (pretty long, I know). I can't say that I'm wildly satisfied with the final outcome, but naah, Im just glad I've finished it already

I started working on the short movie in Blender a long time ago, but you know how it goes- you work on something for a year, but in the end of that year things you did at the beggining already look dreadfull to you, so you scrap it and start over. Plus, I've been working on it when I had free time + I felt like it, so you can see why this took so long.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. This was excellent! If there were any flaws in it then I didn't notice them - I was too involved in seeing what would happen next. It proves that a good story always outweighs technical wizardry. If I were a chin-stroking beardy academic I might also suggest that it has some deeper meaning about maintaining the personal bubble in which we all live. My only suggestion would be to change the title so it doesn't give the game away - perhaps 'Small World' or something?

  2. Wow, extremely well done! The overall result is spectacular!

The only issue I saw in the entire film was I thought the transition to the outside of the globe was a bit weird. But other than that no issues jump out at me.

Fantastic work, and thanks for sharing.
