As you say that you are "gathering energy and ideas there is one thing that I would realy like to see: a package manager for the addons. (I have heard about this being planned as part of the BlenderCloud, but I haven't been able to verify this. Sorry if this is already in planning.) I think that having plugins scattered all around the forums, the wiki, cgcookie and other places seems quite impractical. Having a repository system would improve the discoverability of 3rd party addons while trimming down the size of blender's downloads. This could also make updates to addons easier and permit review of third party addons.
There would be no need to reinvent the wheel for the package format, for example 0install (0install.net) would seem to fit the bill pretty well.
There is a thread on BA about this: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?382144-Idea-Blender-Add-on-manager-quot-UPDATES-quot-panel-and-Blender-cloud-accounts
+1 for the addon package manager thing.
At least add an empty folder for personnal addons that can be also scanned by blender. Tired of sorting my script in the addon folder, not knowing what is there by default and what's not... (and I don' t want my script in the [...]data/roaming/ folder...)
I believe that in previous Blender Developer Notes for 2.75 & 2.76, we were hearing of OpenVDB being implemented in Blender. Is that still being done, or is that put on pause for the time being?
