"Why I Love the Blender Node System"

3

Gottfried Hofman writes:

Frederik Steinmetz created a short video to show all the cool features that make the workflow in the Blender node editor super easy and super fast. It was designed as a video to show to developers of other programs some of the neat features of the Blender node editor, in hopes they catch up.

But of course we are also sharing the video with the Blender community because it's also a nice overview for beginners and intermediates alike.

  1. An organizer is a GREAT tool to help the organized to organize.

It doesn't necessarily help the disorganized become more organized.

Blender nodes are a GREAT tool, IF you know what you're doing, want to do.

If you have no idea what you're doing, you've just got a LOT of choices.

Not necessarily faster or more efficient, just confusing.

In looking at this video, I have no understanding of WHY he made the
    choices he did.

As I do with MOST Blender nodes.

I probably wouldn't, won't, don't use them for that reason.

Perhaps, canned (anathema to purists, only getting in the way of creativity). but
for those of us not endowed, imbued with creative genius, rather than having to sift
through the myriad choices, learning by examples, might help with understanding.

I GET IT. THESE ARE EXAMPLES.

This is NOT a commentary on Blender. I use it. For the MOST part, I like it.

I've risen to my level of incompetence. I accept that fact and use it within the context
of what works for me. No more. No less.

Just a personal observation for which I expect to be ridiculed for the idiot I am.

    Just saying.

    • he was mostly just playing around in the compositor node editor to show some things he likes about how blender's nodes work vs other program's nodes.

you're right, there are a lot of options but it really just comes down to knowing what the nodes do, how they're meant to work together (connections from one node to another should match colors) and playing around to see what can and can't break free from the general rules to get something interesting. (it's not that unusual to connect a output yellow to a gray input for instance)

following a few different tutorials help me get the hang of it. before that i didn't know what the heck i was doing so i just avoided it as much as possible. now i prefer nodes. i'm certainly not the best at it but i certainly know enough to get by and now it seems like a much better work flow to me than the old way.

  2. I loved too, compared others node software, the node in blender much more beautiful and handy, the feel is free, all become relax if you know what you are doing, and the Auto offset in blender 2.76 make more cool, yeah, don't forget the node wrangler.

Hope more operate can doing with nodes, for example, the Particle system, the Animation, Driver, Dynamic, modifier. all be nodes :P
