Luxurious Lounge Render using Cycles

6

India based Blender studio Bryne Studios created this beautiful interior architectural render.

Udhaya Sankar writes:

This is my first posting and hope you all like the little background info on how we got this to render and make it look cool.

This was possible only because of a team effort of 4 artists in total. I'm heading a startup animation studio in India called Bryne Studios and using Blender as our 3D application. We as a small team of 5 push the boundaries in what we do, as you can see in the image the love for details. The only purpose of this image was to see how far we can push blender to our needs and not for any commercial benefits.

This is a render done entirely in blender cycles. We were inspired by a photograph from freshome.com.
The first goal was to get 3 factors working correctly, I follow this in all my art work.

  1. Color Temperature for the image to give it that classical feel.
  2. Brightness and Contrast ratio
  3. Getting the materials to work, and make them look natural as much as possible.

Lighting this scene was followed by the simplest procedures possible, we never did anything out of the box techniques, as I like to keep things very simple. Total number of lights in the scene is 18 including emission, spot and point lights. Main lights were used as Portals which saved us a lot of time in rendering and getting to reduce noise. We did a comp in blender itself by combining several passes and making them work as a good balance. I did a small touch up using Krita 2D in the last stage as well.

Workstation Spec : Linux Ubuntu OS, Intel i7-4770k, 32GB RAM, Nvidia Quadro K600 card.
I did a CPU render and not GPU. render time took around 2 hours in my machine.

Number of days we took to get this output was 12.

Ubuntu is an amazingly stable OS for running blender, I never experienced any crash so far even if the scenes were very heavy. Would love to share the scene file too, but I'm not sure if that is possible here in this post itself.

Will see if I can post a video of entire making in the near future. Thanks to Blender communities and amazing artists in supporting each work we do.

  1. Verryy Nice. Good composition. But please, take the bottle of cheap Chianti away. We don't drink that in luxurious lounges. ;-)

  2. Well done and as Roberto wrote the mood of lighting is warm and pleasant. Really nice.

About the Chianti, sorry but I must agree with Peter, that's a flask of Chianti which you get at the restaurant or trattoria, surely not in such an elegant place, but perhaps a regular bottle of good Chianti could take its place. Search for "Chianti wine bottle" and then "rare", "collectibles", "fine" etc.
