Using Vertex Colors as Masks

1

Nathan Craddock writes:

This quick tutorial shows you how to use Vertex Colors as a mask in Blender Cycles materials. Its not ground-breaking news, but can be useful in many cases!

It is especially useful when you want to use already defined colors, such as a UV Image texture and mix it with certain areas of a mesh, without using another image (Which can use GPU memory quickly!)

Hope you all enjoy! ;)

  1. I do this all the time. Vertex Paint mode has become Mask Paint mode :) . Very useful for separating materials on a sculpt and for laying down base colors.
