Now that RenderMan is free for non-commercial use the PRMan plugin is offering integration, it's time for tutorials! Jonathan Lampel looked at PxrDisney Shader and RenderMan Preview Rendering last week, and nor Chris Folea dives into displacement mapping.
I've just released a new tutorial on Displacement in Renderman for Blender.
In the tutorial, I go over the basics of procedural texturing, how to set up displacement, and how to use a vector displacement map all in Renderman for Blender!

Yeah.. I have always wondered why Blender has no displacement like this. Subdividing object is really slow and mesh gets really heavy to load in BVH also. I haven't even heard no plans for this like.. never, although other renderers have this feature for 10 years already.
The same with bevel edges shader. At least we have pointiness not, but it also depends on geometry, so you have to needlessly add more geometry just to have shader behave as you want..

Blender has had diced displacement as an experimental (CPU only) feature for a short time now

Yes I have seen it and have tried, but it doesn't work and has absolutely no use. It's there from the beging of Cycles, but it has never been finished. As you can read there Subdivision feature is experimental, basically.. it's not working.
It works for me - but yes, it's pretty finicky for sure.
