Discover the math behind CG with 'Pixar in a Box'

7

Are you curious to learn more about the mathematics behind computer modeling and animation? While Pixar's new 'Pixar in a Box' is aimed at kids, I found it a real pleasure to watch.

Following examples from their movies, the series explores concepts like subdivision surfaces, interpolation of motion, automatic generation of models and more. Each section is presented by actual Pixar team members and zooms in on one aspect from their block busters.

'Pixar in a Box' is a collaboration with the renowned Khan Academy, who do an amazing job at providing free on-line education.

Update: This interview with Tony DeRose has a glowing mention of Blender! (I'm not telling you where because this video is totally worth watching ;-)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
