Easy Command Line Render Tool

13

Command Line Helper lets you use the Blender command line mode from an app. I guess that's a little ironic, but it might be useful for some people to help with background rendering. Windows only.

David McDermott writes:

I made a gui application to run command line renders. It is for anyone who doesn't like having to use the command line, now you don't have to. I hope people find it useful.

  1. Yes, in my experience they CMD render is approx. 10% to 20% faster (sometimes more) It really makes a difference when you are rendering an animation. and You're Welcome :)

  2. 20 % ?
    O_o
Now that is awsome, since one frame for me is 12 hours.
Thank you so much David McDermott, i need this addon.

    • Yes it really depends on the scene. For example I am rendering an animation right now.
GPU rendering : Render normally in Blender 5min10 sec Render from the command line 4min 8sec But results may vary, just give it a shot and see.

Don't get your hopes up too much. Sometimes there is hardly a difference at all. But, it is always more stable. I had scenes that would crash when I tried to render them. But were able to render through CMD line.

  3. I've been using this today, and it really works quite well; it's a very useful tool.

There are a few small things what would make it perfect, although it could be me using it wrong.

    1) Remember the Blender location from the previous use
    2) When rendering a still, don't add the frame number to the render.
    3) When rendering a still, and the user has typed "Testrender.png" as the output filename, the actual name ends up as "Testrender.png001.png", which seems odd.

Thanks again for this great tool!

  4. Nice idea, but not being able to deal with spaces in file/folder names?
C'mon, David... That should be really, really easy. Is it open source?
    Maybe I can pitch in...

Yes I agree, its top of my list for version 2. Thanks for the feedback. I will look into the opensource.cheers.

      • Ok, nice!
It's also fairly easy to look up if and where Blender is installed via the windows registry (if the installer was used), so users don't have to fill that part in. Keeping that as an option might be required though, because I just read the .blend association is broken in 2.75a. - oh well -
        Good luck.

      • I totally agree with the need of having that issue solved (but I have no idea if it's easy or not). I like the tool a lot, but I can't change all my Studio's production paths. I hope you can fix it.
        Thanks for your work, David!
