I just love seeing where Blender pops up sometimes. Having been a boy scout myself, I can't help but feel a little jealous of the current generation ;-)

The Boy Scouts of America included an entire couple of pages on Blender in it's recent booklet for the Animation Merit Badge. They said this, (and I quote), about the software, "Blender (TM) is an open-source computer application that you can use to create professional-quality 3-D animations. Some of the examples in this pamphlet were created using Blender. The software is for personal and commercial use. To download it (with your parents permission), go to http://www.blender.org. Do an internet search (with permission) for Blender 3-D animations and tutorials to learn everything you can do with the software." They also gave a tour of part of it's UI, as well as a model of Sintel and some screenshots from Tears of Steel and Big Buck Bunny. Kudos to the BSA for raising awareness about Blender!

with permission.....twice......
That's to be sure that kids are safe on the internet (as part of their Internet Safety) and probably for liability reasons. just in case something does happen
I found that a bit amusing. I know that they have to put it in there, but no one exept first year scouts would listen to that.
I myself am a fourth year Boy Scout, and I don't think I've ever asked my mom if I can search for something.
It's just there so that they can't be sued if something innapropriate is on the page and the parents get angry.
Basically what ctdabomb said.
The requirements seem pretty basic, and also not very geared towards 3D animation, so that's a bit sad. But it can take a very long time to make an animation apear even somewhat good, especially with no experience in the subject.
Yep. The merit badge was a little bit of a letdown, considering I was anticipating it for a few months. But hey, I'm gonna teach 3d. With Blender. One way or another.
Cant wait to earn the merit badge being a Boy Scout
