Addon - Shape Driver Constraint

30

Andreas Esau posted a new addon to help you animate using shapekey drivers.

Hey there, this is a small addon I have written for Blender. This addon makes the task to connect shapekey driver to bones super fast and super easy! Creating driver and connecting them to your bones always was a tedious task and I really hated it, thats the reason why I have written this small addon operator. Feel free to download and use it.

Also if you like that video, please give me a thumbs up and share it with other people.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Nice. Wish I had this a couple months ago. Still , it'll come in very handy. And save hours. Lol cause each character had 43 shape key's. Thinks you could make this assign a costume shape too , that would complete the task. Of coarse you would have to have the shape before hitting the operator. Just a thought. Thanks.

  2. I'd like to see the developers spend more time looking into making things easier in ways like this. Obviously, it's possible! Three thumbs up!

    • Hey thanks alot Bill.
I will push a new version in the next days that will make it even better I think. Campbell gave me a few hints where I could improve it. Now you can autoset the values by just transforming the bone to your disered position, rotation or scale. And it will set all the values automatically and then you can tweak them if you want. You can also create new shapekeys from the operator.
I also added the operator to the Specials menu and to the pose bones tools panel.

So.. hopefully this will make it even better. Video will follow soon which showcases the new additions.

I must be doing something wrong, but it doesn't show up when installed ?? where would I find it in my add-on list? to check if it is installed/activated?

not listed there, have installed 3 times... :( will try a fresh install of blender and see if there is a conflict .. I have had this happen before from time to time. I wish there was a better way to manage these add ons sometimes. also it may have an issue on OS X .. that's happened before too.

:( even on a clean install of Blender this doesn't show up. I feel this may be an OS X conflict, which is a shame as it would save me HOURS of time

          • James, don't know if you got it going or not, but it's showing up in mine running Yosemite. Just to check, when I downloaded Finder auto unzipped the zip file to a folder. Then I compressed just the python script into a zip and installed that into Blender. Hope that helps.

yay! that worked :) Thanks... odd that.. the zip file must have been compressed differently I had tried installing from the original and the unzipped... didn't think to zip it up again lol... computers are so weird sometimes.

  5. Hello. let's say that I have created and finalized a character with the manuel bastioni lab 1.6.1 and I have a lot of shapekeys for the face, but no bones. This addon is not able to create the bones from scratch ?
