3Dami UK Summer Schools

The free 3Dami summerschool is again open for submissions!
Tom Haines writes:For the last three years 3Dami has brought together small teams of 15-18 year old students to make short 3D animated films. Each team starts from scratch and has just seven days until their première. During that time they have to write the script, draw the storyboard, then use Blender to make the characters/props/sets, animate every shot, and then use Blender’s compositor and video editor to put together the final film. They operate like a film studio, with students taking on the role of director and producer, dailies and the user of asset managers and render farms. We always squeeze in talks from industry – last year we had Molinare talk about TV special effects, and Rare talk about animation. Additionally, there is a tour of a digital media company, which last year was the oscar winning Framestore.
This year we are not only running again but have expanded, and will be running in both London and Cardiff in the UK. From 22nd July – 30th July 2015 it will be at University College London, and from 29th July – 6th August 2015 it will be at Cardiff university. All UK students from 15-18 are eligible, and we do accept a few 14 year olds each year as well. With two locations we have 45 places (5 teams of 9)!
To learn more about the event please visit our website, 3dami.org, where you can watch past films and sign up to attend. Its totally free, and this year will include accommodation, transport and food. The submission deadlines are:
- 8th June – First deadline; we fill half of the available places.
- 14th July – Second deadline, from which we select the remaining half.
