Blender Developer Notes: March 15, 2015

Ton shares the notes of the developers meeting in irc.freenode.net, #blendercoders.

Hi all,

Here are the notes from today's meeting in irc.freenode.net #blendercoders.

1) Release review

  • Last week the first 2.74 RC was released. Proposal is to do an RC2 mid this week.
  • Bug tracker had a big cleanup! Less than 120 open issues now.
  • Important issues that were solved already in the first RC:
  • speed regression in rendering caused by workaround to avoid self-shadowing of huge triangles
  • crash in compositor
  • FBX regression

2) Targets for the upcoming release.

  • Projects and schedule proposal.
  • Sergey Sharybin: the depsgraph might get merged in, but probably only optionally - for tests.
  • OpenSubdiv is possible too, according to Sergey.
  • Dalai Felinto is in Amsterdam and he's ready for moving things to master. It needs just one more session with Campbell Barton and Sergey.

3) Other projects

  • Mike Erwin starts this week on a 3 month Development Fund grant - to work on our new Viewport.
  • Julian 'Severin' Eisel will work in Blender Institute for two weeks early April, probably on the custom widget system (and to get some hands-on animation training!).

Thanks,

-Ton-

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
