Learn how to create pixel art in Blender

6

Nycholas Weissberg shows how to generate a pixel art effect.

Hey Blendernation. This is my first video tutorial... I made an animation of a Pokeball yesterday and a lot of people liked the effect I added to render it! So I decided to share the knowledge with you blender artists!
I hope you enjoy it and in the process learn something different.

Happy Blending!

  1. The secret is out! no more drawing pixel art 1 pixel at a time.

As a 3D artist experimenting with how to make different styles of game art I first came across this technique here:

but I also discovered this little talked about add-on for rendering sprite sheets, I have not used much myself, but I think this might be a good spot to share it :)

  2. Does anyone else find irony in how much effort we put these days into making things like 'pixel art'? i.e. artifacts from another era that we try to replicate now that we have thousands of times the processing power. :)

  3. I use Blender 2.72b, when I use the scale node, the image will auto anti-aliasing when it scale, I don't know what setting I missed.

  4. I never thought of using a node setup for the effect, opting instead for a cheap-and quick solution by setting the render size to 10% and scaling the resulting image up. This looks very interesting.
