You can now set your models on Sketchfab to downloadable under a Creative Commons license. They have also entered a partnership with a number of organizations who are providing free downloadable content.
My favorite by far is the British Museum, who are doing a great job scanning in some of their cultural treasures and offering them for free to the public:
The British Museum is fascinated by the potential of 3D to unlock new ways for people to interact with our collection - and love what Sketchfab are doing to power this market. So today we’re making available a set of 3D models produced by one of our team for download from Sketchfab. We’re fascinated to see what people do with them, and can’t wait to experiment more in this exciting new area … so watch this space!”

awesome.
it's always easier to get a better grasp of a 3d object when you're not stuck looking at 2d images of it.
3d scans may have horrible topology but they're still useful as reference for pure form.
British Museum, et al? This is really cool!
