Weekend Contest winner: Steam powered 3D printer

4

The entries for our weekend contest 'The Industrial Revolution' were fantastic! The clear winner was Joas with his Suzanne-producing steam powered 3D printer.

I especially enjoyed his description of the machine:

This is a miniature model of a steam powered 3D printer, the very first 3D device that was ever made!

The somewhat strange looking machine was capable of producing thousands of toy models per day. A monkey head, named Suzanne, was the showpiece and it was loved by children all over the world.

Some people believe that this wonderful machine served as the main source of inspiration for Blender, an excellent and very popular 3D creation suite that is developed in our age :)

Congrats Joas! You get to pick the topic for this weekend.

Runners up were:

nachoc

original-1

Tenebrael - Steambook

original-2

ojiyamasanx - labor and capital

original-3

Thanks for participating everyone!!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
