Weekend Contest: "The Industrial Revolution"

18

Adré Strydom was the winner of the weekend contest 'Be Reggae'. His pick for this weekend: "The Industrial Revolution".

André writes:

I've had the displeasure this week of trying to fix something that's completely mechanical. It reminded me of the industrial revolution, so I would like this week's theme to be "The Industrial Revolution". So if it's a mechanical device or a hulking industrial factory, let your imagination go wild.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I would make a combine harvester for this contest, but I'm too busy harvesting rice on the real thing. I've always wanted to make a paper model of one to give to my Japanese father-in-law... Might have a stab at it tonight.

  2. Here's my entry: Steambook. Everything made in Blender, textures used from TextureCrate and edited/adjusted in Gimp.

  3. I didn't think I would find time to make anything this weekend, but I found the theme hard to resist. I put this together last night and did a few minutes of post-pro just now. I named it "Lonely "Dandelion". Guess I could have added some more dept to it, but now, the rest of the weekend belongs to my family! Hope you like it everyone. Good luck to all contestants! :)

  4. This is my first submission to one of these weekend contests. I'm calling it "The Child's Revolution". All made in Blender except for the textures, which are from freestocktextures.com.

  5. Herewith my contribution to the weekend contest of the Industrial Revolution.

Attached image represents an industrial boiler to produce high pressure steam for industrial duties. It is a look a like of industrial boiler as built in that periode, but this model is full of artistic freedom.

The enire model has been built in Blender 2.71 and rendered with Cycles. The whole model is full of pipes and tubes and have been built up with BezierCurves to minimize the amount of verts. Arrays and mirrors have applied used to minimize the workflow.

    Regards,
    Ben.

  7. Well... As always, little time and an old machine ... I wrote in google images "industrial revolution" and I chose a somewhat complicated picture for reference ... Here's the result (my first time working with smoke (in blender ;) ) ). After, I also publish the reference image.
    I hope you like!!!

  8. This is a miniature model of a steam powered 3D printer, the very first 3D device that was ever made!

The somewhat strange looking machine was capable of producing thousands of toy models per day. A monkey head, named Suzanne, was the showpiece and it was loved by children all over the world.

Some people believe that this wonderful machine served as the main source of inspiration for Blender, an excellent and very popular 3D creation suite that is developed in our age :)
