BLightStudio adds easy HDR light setup

12

Ptaszek is working on an add-on that's timilar to hdrlightstudio. He describes himself as 'not a script guy', but his result so far is pretty darn impressive!

The great Software which is hdrlightstudio.com does not exist for Blender yet. I decided to create something like that in Blender by myself. I am not a script guy, so I am sure it can be done better, so I am showing my idea here, and if someone can convert this for a nice Blender plugin it would be great! HDR real lights are from hdrlabs.com.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. This is superb idea - making studio lighting setup easy! I love the way the lights automatically point to the centre without setting up any empty-parenting or constraints, etc. A few suggestions to make it even more useful:
    1) Provide alternative shaped meshes, like a circle and a doughnut (ring flash) shaped mesh.
    2) Is it possible to add a way to 'solo' each light in turn, while 'muting' all the others?
Keep up the good work - this could be an essential Blender add-on.

  2. I want to thank you again for this file. I HAD it set up as my default start-up file for a good while.
    Unfortunately,
I've had to reset my to Blender's default settings due to a MAJOR issue
when it comes to rendering animations. I've made a video to show the
issue. I'm sure it's a glitch of some type because it happens pretty
randomly. But because of it, Blight Studio can not be used for rendering
animations. I'm using Blender 2.72, but it happens in other versions as
    well. can it be fixed?
