Making a simple "Batman" style character

5

Katsbits has published a modeling tutorial for beginners.

Using Blenders default Scene cube the user is taken through the process of turning it into a simple low poly "cubie"™ character based on DC Comics Batman (not posed or rigged).Although the basic process is simple enough, much of it is spent adjusting, tweaking and inspecting the mesh to make sure structure visually balances out left to right. One way to aid doing this is to 'mirror' the mesh (using "Alt+D" to "Duplicate Linked") so changes made to one side are 'mirrored' to the other (immediate updates). Using extrude, "E", the initial blocky structure is built before progressing on to more detailed adjustments, arriving at the final mesh (shown posed in 'cruciform'). Simple Materials are then added to colour surfaces (no textures used).

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
