Layered Painting in Blender 2.72

3

CG Masters demonstrates the new 'layered painting' features that will become available in 2.72.

Aidy Burrows writes:

One of the most underrated parts of Blender has undergone a huge improvement!

Helping to demonstrate this improvement we have a great new tutorial on how to 3D paint a simple toon style cactus prop.

Simple?

Now I say simple, but this is something that is surprisingly difficult to achieve.

Layered painting is not something we’ve seen done too often as it’s historically been a little tricky to setup. The new Blender 2.72 paint slots update makes painting with alpha layers a lot more straightforward.

Also check out the new Fill brush, color palettes, gradients and more besides!

I'd also like to introduce the awesome artist Martin Turner the author of this tutorial. I've had the fortune of working alongside Martin for many years at TT Fusion (the studio is most notably known as the creators of the popular Lego video games). Check out some more of his work by following the link.

I'll be able to paint and let Mudbox, very good thing. But annoying having to export uv and paint layers in Mudbox. Thank you very much hope to that version.

  2. Psy-Fi, you rock! I love all the work you've been doing especially with Texture Paint Mode (and Sculpt Mode). Texture Paint Mode just keeps getting better, all thanks to your hard work. There needs to be, like, an international holiday in your honor: Antony Riakiotakis Day. Hahaha!

Nice demonstration of this feature, Martin and CG Masters!

    • Knowing Antony, I bet it probably won't be long until we see the new layer system fashioned into a similar layers system for Sculpt Mode.

Layered sculpting would be wonder. Someday, we'll get there in Blender. And chances are, I bet it'll be Psy-Fi somehow involved. ;)
