In this introductory game engine tutorial series Gary Myers teaches you modeling, texturing, and lighting a bunker level as well as adding game logic to make it playable.
Gary Myers writes:
I created this series for Cris over at 3d-Palace to hopefully expand the Blender audience there. He has tons of free modelling tutorials which can easily be followed using Blender.
'The Bunker' is a five part introduction to both Blender and the game engine.
Using simple assets and techniques I show how to create an atmospheric environment for a game level, complete with sound and animation. If you've used Blender but not tried the game engine yet - or even if you're a complete beginner - the step-by-step nature of these videos will see you creating a complete environment in a couple of hours.

Any predictions on when GE will have improved your performace? The cycles every version won a significant gain in performace, have any estimate of when this will happen with the BGE?
Never?
Under the blender development plans version 2.8x has "Game Engine refocus" listed. What this means I don't know, but there's still some developers out there keeping it alive.
Yesss... I want to see the game engine getting more love. Everyone talks about how useless and slow it is, but from my experience it's pretty capable at doing what it's intended to.
Thanks for this set of videos. Although I have been using Blender for 12 years, I am just getting interested in the game engine. This was very helpful.
