Render Wireframes in Cycles with Freestyle

7

Greg Zaal of Blender Nerd shares a tutorial on wireframe rendering with Freestyle in Cycles.

Greg Zaal writes:

Now that it's possible to use Freestyle with the Cycles render engine, we can easily render a wire frame overlay of the geometry of our models.

The only ways to do this previously were overcomplicated and limited, showing either all the triangles generated by the renderer after all the modifiers, or stretched wires where the thickness depended on the size of the face. Now however, we can do it the proper way, choosing to show the original quads before any subsurf modifiers, and wires that are all an exact thickness.

Not only that, but Freestyle, being an amazing tool for non-photorealistic rendering, allows us to add some fancy effects to our wires, such as dotted lines, brush strokes, textures, opacity and more.

    • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!H!H That sound makes me crazy. I couldn't even watch the tutorial, closed it after 30 seconds. Why does he do that? I think Greg Zaal should make another version of this tutorial to redeem himself.

    • I never noticed this before! I think I was distracted by the interesting, relevant and insightful content of his tutorials.

      • you're right! silly me.. I wasn't paying attention to his fantastic efforts to bring us nice tutorials and learn a lot from him!
I should never ever make remarks about something free and nice! I need to be punished for making my hurtful remark.. what is this world coming to?

        • To be honest, I did something very similar to a really good artist's submission here on BlenderNation a few months ago.
It all somehow seems kind of Karmic!

      • The tutorials are indeed interesting, relevant, insightful and free, but STILL the audio is unbearable...

        Particlarly when you're using headphones...

    • Sooo very true! Thank you!

It's really a pity he does that with his voice, because otherwise, the tutorials are of great quality...
