Justin describes three approaches to rendering wireframes in this short tutorial.
Justin writes:
I was recently looking into creating wireframe renders for some of my models and my first instinct was to use the wireframe modifier. However, I ran across other ways to get the job done. So I thought I would make a quick tutorial and share a couple of methods for creating wireframe renders.
It currently includes using the wireframe modifier, the wireframe node, and a matcap+screenshot method, but if people have other methods to add to it then I'm all ears!

Freestyle is the boss to do this. Can stylize it too.
Run this script in python editor mode of freestyle: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?89986-Freestyle-for-Blender&p=2672709&viewfull=1#post2672709 and you can generate curves which you can do almost anything with. Enjoy! :D
u get wireframe effect also as making uvmap and then open it on gimp etc, i found this method by accident some time ago when i forgot uvmap as first layer
Happy accident!
Darn, you beat me to suggesting this! :D
