About the Author
Bart Veldhuizen
I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

Brilliant!...like always ;)
scalarmath.pyd thread? Antivirus reports it as a virus, anyone have had this problem? Windows 7Julia
It is a known issue. The file in questions has a name that is misused by some virus and an unknown signature.
The file in question is part of numpy as it is on the blender svn libraries repository https://svn.blender.org/svnroot/bf-b...mpy_1.8.tar.gz
I have scanned it https://www.virustotal.com/nl/file/0...5a37/analysis/.
I build the release in a virtual machine that is 100% dedicated and 100% fully updated and only has compiler + tools installed.

where being the opensubdiv
A good few months away actually. They want to show it on some expo first so that Sergey went somewhere where Brecht shines nowadays and we won't see good implementation for quite awhile =)
What?!
Relax it was a joke, even put a smile at the end.
Utopia: I think he's refering to Brecht joining the arnold team.
Ato Mix: your reply was lost in translation. i dont think Utopia was annoyed at you just didnt understand what you were trying to say.
"i dont think Utopia was annoyed at you just didnt understand what you were trying to say."
Exactly!
Party!! Thank you hard working people!

i did not get a "copy previous settings" on the flash screen! is there any way to move my old settings or am I going to have to go through each one?
if you're on windows, the settings should always be reading from your app data, otherwise, just open your previous default file from the older version into 2.71 and save as default. this will get most of your settings into the new version.
Thanks.
It sort of worked. Luxrender will not work though. When I tried to enable it, it shot back an error.

Any ideas?
2.71 is built with a new version of Python, so a lot of existing plugins won't work until they're re-compiled with the newer Python version.
As a game developer, I thank you guys for really getting on the ball with Cycles texture baking. I appreciate the new release as a whole, though, that one feature is one of the most important features for me personally all year, and I'm glad how well it's been improving. I especially appreciate the addition of SSS texture-baking, which speaks to my physically-based rendering game workflow. A job well done, folks. Thanks.
Could we have a detailed tut about your workflow, please?
Yep.. it's always good to know other's workflows.
Suclpting with constant detail. Oh YES!
Great release for game developers, thanks a lot! Here's a blog post on how to set up Unity and Blender to use the new fbx exporter: http://www.tremplin.mobi/blog/blender-unity-workflow/
dont know about anyone else but my render times just went from 5 minutes to 30 seconds on a loaded blend 7 particle sys's, grass ,tree's spotlight's with halo, big texture's,HDRI background, dof. 1920x1080 at 75%, raytracing, and 8 AA. ON AN AMD hd5450 .window's pro 64 i7.with the relatively new 14.6 beta driver. mabye i just got smarter but i don't think so.lol. once my blend's get this heavy render times usually start to crawl .woho who ever is responsible THAAAANK YOU.
Did they discontinue Mac 32bit? The link gives 404 acrossed the board. I don't know where to post that question.
the mirror's are working. they actually updated i think as i was going back and forth checking which ones were putting up the save pop-up.
Mac 64bit version I did download, but none for 32bit as of yet (tried the list down, and looked in each mirror's folder... nothing 32bit for the Mac)
Is it just me, or is anybody else having a problem with naming new vertex Groups, or UV maps? . . .I can't seem to assign names for some reason.
I am having the same problem with vertex groups. New ones don't show up and cannot be named. I am having a similar problem with some materials as well.
