David McSween presents a technique to quickly create a simple text overlay effect in the video sequence editor.
In TV news the turn around times for media creation is very tight, and working in a large organization means that resources can be stretched thin. With a black hole in the timeline of a story, and no time to send the out for graphics, I resort to trusty old Blender to get me out of a problem.
In this tutorial I run through all the steps that that I took to fill that black hole, even surprising myself with a new technique that would have saved me more time.
In this case Blender's VSE was the only way that I could create this effect, on time and in budget (no budget).
Get real time feedback and fast prototyping using the VSE, masks and the VSE Transform addon, no compositing nodes allowed ;-)

Hi there...thanks very much for this eye-opener. Blender is really what people make out of it! I liked the "reverse" on the final, just to show that mostly there is a way of doing it, it is keeping an open mind with open software.

Hey David!
Great to see VSE get some attention.
Thank you for this elucidative tutorial!
