‘Oil Tanker’ is the most detailed ship model you’ve seen

3-Dimensional has worked on this oil tanker model for a LONG time and it shows – the model contains an uncanny amount of detail.

This personal project is my second attempt to model a ship.
For the first model I used AutoCAD (some years ago ago), without plans and only some reference images but after searching for a long time I found some blueprints of ships and decided to start with this tanker of 243 meters long and 106,000 tons of capacity .The model consists of 457938 faces (with Subdivision 1 722 787 faces), textures and rigs in the doors and cranes.
It took me a long time to finish it because almost no photos of this vessel to use as references, but I really enjoyed the challenge of creating this large model. I also hope you enjoy it.
Oil Tanker modeled in Blender 2.69 and rendered in Cycles.

Holy ship!
Respect.
Simply amazing.
Yeah , good job.
look like hard work, but how ?
Any chance tutorial?
Can it be paint dirty and old rust?
Very good!
Here’s the secret that would be in the tutorial- Lots of hard work, lots of time put in. Works like magic, every time.
Hats off!
Excellent model with incredible detail. After looking at the gallery, I’d like to know how he created the foam for the wake of the ship. It looks very real and I’ve had poor success so far getting anything close to it.
Fantastic job!!
