Import outlines of buildings from OpenStreetMap with this new add-on.

vvoovv writes:

The addon imports all building outlines from a file in the OpenStreetMap format (.osm). The building outlines will have their real sizes in Blender.

  1. Just tried it out, works as advertised, nice and fast, thank you!
How about adding streets to it? I believe OSM streets are just lines, so the addon would need a "street width" setting, and would give the street-lines this width.

  2. This is a GOD SEND!!! I've been working with the trial version of CityEngine for years just to get .obj's of building and street footprints into Blender. Now they have to find a way to import the streets as well and we'll have real progress in possibly having a robust "city builder" add-on for Blender.

  3. Yes, I'll add support for roads and paths in the coming days. I am going to import them as a sequence of edges without any width

  4. Import of roads and paths is supported now via the "Import roads and paths" checkbox. Please download the new version of the addon, reinstall it and try it again.

  5. Has there been any further work on importing the roads from Openstreetmap with the width and texture instead of a single line? I have tried importing the .obj output from OSM2WORLD but it produces broken buildings in Blender. The roads are great though.
Also, the buildings that are imported from OSM I think have height in the file entities and I wonder if that tag could be used in the import to produce a building with correct height?

  6. Ok so how an I suppose to get this gobbledygook into blender? I click the link at the site and it is a page of python script. What am I suppose to do with that?

  7. Thank you for your reply.I am still confused about what do do with this page of code? I have never installed anything like this before.I don't know what to do.

    Thanks -Drew
