Tutorial: How to Make Towels

5

Andrew Price shows how to use the Blender cloth simulator to create this towel scene.

Andrew writes:

In this tutorial you will discover:

  • The basics of the cloth simulator
  • How to simulate a realistic hanging towel
  • Use the particle system to create fluffy fur

Ever wonder why so many architectural interiors look cold and uninviting? Everything’s hard. You wouldn’t want to live in a house filled entirely with hard surfaces, so it’s no wonder we’re repulsed when seeing them in renders.

Fabric helps contrasts hard surfaces with flowing soft, comforting material. If you’re finished an interior and there’s no organic surfaces (soft, flowing shapes) then add some.

In this tutorial I’ll show the tips and tweaks to get nice fluffy towels that complement your scene instead of detracting from it.

I am a newbie to 3d modeling and trying to learn. I haven't bought any products from Andrew yet but I follow all the tutorials he posts on YouTube and Vimeo. I feel Andrew Price really gets it, the problems faced by noobs. In one tutorial instead of saying extrude individual he will helpfully adds,'if you do not see a panel on your left hand corner, press T. Make sure your cursor is on the 3d view when you press T'. I had taken a good 5 days by trial and error till that time to figure out that the cursor needs to be inside the 3D view for the T to work! Andrew Price for president!
