Modifying a Model for Shapeways

2

David Ward presents an in-depth tutorial on how to create a Full Color Sandstone 3D printed model with Shapeways. Also check out his 3D Printing a T-Rex video which I published last week.

David writes:

In this tutorial, I take my old "Johnny Blender 3 / JB3" character and modify him and the texture mapping to be compatible with the "Full Color Sandstone" option on Shapeways.com.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I know this is old, but I wanted to point something out. I haven't been able to get the UV map to work with the Shapways full color sandstone when exporting to X3D. It simply shows a blank mesh. The only way I've been able to do such, is with VRML2, and editing the wrl file to reference the diffuse map. Is there an easier way that works?
