This model by AlexanderESmith brings back memories! (Although in my case it would have been playing Tetris ;-).

After many revisions, this is the latest (and probably final) render. Let me know what you think!
The entire modeling, texturing, and rendering process can be seen in the archives of my Twitch stream.
This took roughly 55 hours from start to finish (with a fair amount of screwing around and at least two 4-6 hour sessions messing with the speaker grill or item placement in the scene).

Indistinguishable from a photo. A good photo taken at the eighties. What about another image with some dirty textures indicating that someone just found these treasures in an old chest in the current days?
I always thought the lighting in this image was just like something you'd see in a full-page ad in Nintendo Power circa 1990 :D
That's a great idea! There are so many ways to weather a gameboy (yellowing plastic, dirt, markers, mussing pieces, etc). I should do like a zombie gameboy gallery for Halloween or something xD
Excellent modeling & texturing work, love it!
What breaks reality for me is the battery compartment. It doesn't look like there's any space between the back of the battery and the compartment's back. There should be just enough space for a thin sheet of conductive contact metal and/or springs there to push the batteries securely into their respective lanes. Of course, I never had a game-boy, but the battery compartment back should have had a pair of notches (and the cover needs a pair of hooks) to lock it into place considering the type of compartment release that is on the image. (flip out style with a latch)
But those are very tiny nitpicks in what is overall a very good and well done model.
No no, you're totally right. Thank you for the critique and the kind words! :D
I need to go back and add some of the finer details some time...
Oh wow, does this ever bring me back. This is flawless.
Thank you :D You guys keep using "stunning" and "flawless" and I'm gonna start blushing xD
This is a beautiful render. The materials and lighting look stunningly real!
Thank you very much!
Hits me right in the childhood. :)
Me too. I loved this thing!
That's fun ! I was trying to model the same stuff 4 days ago as an exercise. Your one is really cool. Here is a super-speed-modeling of my version, 3h of work in 2 minutes : https://www.dropbox.com/s/4ndgz1u4z2rbujz/Ultra-SpeedModeling%203h-2min%20-%20GameBoy.mp4
(it's kind of a fail when you see the quality of my mesh... happy to see someone doing this nicely)
Oh man, this was fantastic. What you did in 3 hours was very much like what I did in 55 (yes, fifty five xD ).
Great job! The only real difference was that I subdivided mine to hell
and back, and had different lighting and textures. Very nicely done!
Cool man huhu ;)
Thanks!
