Fried Egg

Food is incredibly hard to get right in CG, but Lucas Souza nailed it in this image. Would you care to share your results of food rendering below?

Lucas writes:

Hello everyone, this is my latest work. The work lasted about 11 days for the whole process, I hope you enjoy. Blender 2.69 / cycles 800 samples.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

      • Well, after she realized it's CG she said: "Wouldn't it be easier to take a picture of a real fried egg?" *lol* - but she's not that ignorant of 3D art and went on: "Of course I know that's not the point of 3D graphics." That's why I love her ;-)

I'm jealous! I have at least three eggs per day (the saturated fat and dietary cholesterol are the building blocks of hormones, testosterone in particular) and so I was just thinking about how I could do this as a tribute to the healthiest food in the world!

Ah, well, at least nobody has done an animation of an egg cracking, yet. I think some Cell Fracture and Rigid Bodies will work, there.

  2. Mmmm... Now I wish I had some eggs to eat ;) Really good picture! Very realistic! I had actually thought for a second that it was a picture of a real egg.
