Just Testing the New level of detail system.

This is so awesome, waited so long for this and now finally Blender has a integrated level of detail system :)

This is only available in the "Blender Game" engine. I got really excited. Then I realized it was only in the Game engine, I got less excited. Still pretty amazing though.

I agree with that. I'm not a BGE user, but I do suffer poor viewport performance on large scenes. Any chance this could be extended to the other engines?

i'd also like to see this available outside of the BGE. i'm sure it'd get used since i've seen plenty of people create lower poly objects to place in the distance and it'd really pay off for people who keep their own library of objects to use in their stuff... even if it may take some effort to update their library for this kind of thing.

though it may be a little more useful outside of the game engine if it got somewhat of a modifier stack treatment. basically i think it would be helpful to be able to turn on/off individual level of detail for the viewport or renders the way you can for individual modifiers.

so you could turn off some of the closer LOD's in the viewport so only the lower poly models are shown as well as being able to turn off the lower poly LOD's in renders where the camera is actually moving from one spot to another.
some people may not mind having the LOD swab be visible on camera but i'm sure not everyone will want that to be noticable. also, if the camera's moving quickly it might be better to not have to render the highest level of detail where it isn't likely to be noticed or needed.

  3. Nice, kinda useful for drawing low poly models in the distance and only draw the detailed ones near the player. Still not sure how can I make a game in its engine though without an up to date tutorial.

    love it !

you can do this in unity too, but you need to pay 1500$ for the pro version

    love open source software :-)

    Hi folks!

I can't understand how this feature works. Does anybody has a simple template to illustrate this tool?

I don't know about you, but I just love when the Blender wiki has some very simple and self explanatory sample :)

    Thank you very much.
